Turn us again to
yourself, O God.
Psalm 80:3a
As a kid, we went to the Bay of Fundy.
Located along the coasts of Maine, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick,Canada, this area is known for having one of the largest tidal changes in the world!
I can remember standing in what looked like a vacant coastal field. No water in sight. Then we heard a roar as the tide came in. In the place where we were standing, it was like a river materialized out of nowhere. Water was rolling over water as the tide came in.
Let me ask you a question: How close are you to God right now?
If you're like me, your devotion ebbs and flows like the tide. Ever rising and falling.
Now some of us are like the Bay of Fundy, with dramatic highs and lows. Others are more like waves in a swimming pool -- calm, steady, and with little variation. But the point is this: most of us have seasons when we're a little closer or a little further from God. And the question is this: How close are you to God right now?
When I'm feeling further from God and notice that I'm hitting a lower tide, I tend to work harder at my faith. After all, aren't we told that if we draw near to God, he will draw near to us?
This verse, however, offers a beautiful reminder of an even better first step -- ask for God's help!
Before you try to do it all yourself, say, "turn us again to yourself, O God."
In Christ's Love,
a guy who's not any Fundy
