Please listen,
O Shepherd of Israel,
you who lead Joseph’s
descendants like a flock.
O God, enthroned above
the cherubim,
display your radiant glory
Psalm 80:1
When our third son was little, he was constantly saying, "Listen, listen, listen to me." (I guess by son-number-three we were a little distracted.)
Let me tell you a secret: God is not distracted.
God listens.
Always.
Joyfully.
He loves it when people pray. He delights in every effort on our part to fashion relationship. He's a father, and like a father, he delights whenever his children come for a visits.
So ... God listens always. Nevertheless, I love the respectfulness of how this Psalm approaches the Father: "Daddy, Daddy, please listen."
In Christ's Love,
a guy who loves
his heavenly Daddy's
"radiant glory"
(that's why we call on it
respectfully -- "please")
