Sept 17 - Psalm 36:2

In their blind conceit,

they cannot see how wicked

they really are.

Psalm 36:2

Blindness. What is it?

If you want a good definition of spiritual blindness -- the kind that leads to sinful waywardness -- look no farther than the next word in this verse.

What is spiritual blindness?

It is "conceit."

It is thinking that we know better than God. We become deaf to his counsel. Blindly we choose our own course.

Proverbs describes this kind blindness in its opening words -- Proverbs 1:29-32 ...

For they hated knowledge

and chose not to fear the Lord.

They rejected my advice [says the Lord] and

paid no attention when I corrected them.

That is why they must

eat the bitter fruit of living their own way.

They must experience the full terror

of the path they have chosen.

For they are simpletons

who turn away from me -- to death.

They are fools, and

their own complacency will destroy them.

Let us no longer be "conceit[ed" "simpletons," "living [our] own way," dwelling in spiritual "complacency," and "turn[ing] away from [God and life and hope] to death."

In Christ's Love,

a simpleton who originally

had a typo in this devotion;

instead of "blindness,"

I typed "blondness."

Yes … sin is a dumb blonde joke;

It’s a simpleness that leads to death
