May 16 - Revelation 21:21

And the twelve gates are twelve pearls,
each of the gates is a single pearl,
and the street of the city is pure gold,
transparent as glass.
Revelation 21:21

The closing chapters of 1 Chronicles are a list of duties and responsibilities assigned to the people of GodOne of them was the assigning of the gatekeepers to certain families.

This was an important duty. Gates were military outposts. If one little gate was breeched -- by battle or by stealth -- a great city could fall.

In John's majestic glimpses of the New Jerusalem, John sees twelve gates to the city. These are literally the pearly gates -- each gate a single pearl.

But God has a remarkable plan for this new city and these new gates. We are told that "25 its gates will never be closed at the end of the day." Why? "25 Because there will be no night there." Why? Because "the glory of God illuminates the city, and the Lamb [Jesus] is its light."

What gates do you close and guard because of worry and fear? Well, imagine a day when there is no night, no worry, no fight, no fright because God is light.

In Christ's Love,
a guy who always
has a night light
(Jesus)
