July 13 - Psalm 66:1-2a

We resume our journey through the Psalms.

We left off on February 3 with Psalm 65.

Today … Psalm 66 …

Shout joyful praises

to God, all the earth!
Sing about the glory

of his name!

Psalm 66:1-2a

Worship!

Praising God is an awesome place to begin our journey through this Prayer Book again!

Indeed, this joyful Psalm reminds us why we worship. It’s because God is “2 glorious,” “3 awesome,” and “3 mighty [in] power.” He “6 made a dry path through the Red Sea.” (Do you celebrate that as your history too?) And here’s my favorite line – my favorite cause for worship – “9 Our lives are in his hands.”

God is good! Do you worship and praise?!

One of the modern Christian classics is Rick Warren’s book The Purpose-Driven Life. Worship is at the heart of it. Why? Because in looking to start his ministry in a very Biblical way, Warren read exhaustively through the Scriptures. Every time there was a call for the people of God to “do this,” Warren wrote it down.

Then this pastor started sorting through all the hundreds of things he wrote down … and he discovered that God calls us to do five principal things:

1.    The first is worship!

Callings two through five (indeed, purposes two through five) are:

2.    Discipleship (growing in faith)

3.    Fellowship (gathering with believers for a common mission)

4.    Service (being the hands of Christ and meeting the needs of the world)

5.    Evangelism (meeting the greatest need in the world: Telling others about Christ!)

Today’s Psalm starts with number 1 (worship) and jumps immediately to number 5 (evangelism). Re-read today’s verse with the next half verse …

Shout joyful praises

to God, all the earth!
Sing about the glory

of his name!

Tell the world

how glorious he is.

Psalm 66:1-2a

Part of WORSHIPING God is “tell[ing] the world how glorious he is”! (EVANGELISM.)

More than ever, our culture needs your evangelism, your witness.

In Christ’s Love,

a guy who tries to be

Purpose-Driven rather than

Busy and Distracted
