When that period was over, I,
Nebuchadnezzar, lifted my eyes to heaven,
and my reason returned to me.
I blessed the Most High, and
praised and honored the one who lives forever.
For his sovereignty is an everlasting sovereignty,
and his kingdom endures from generation to generation.
Daniel 4:34
One of the strange stories in scripture involves the old king of Babylon -- Nebuchadnezzer. He'd seen God's almight power when the Lord rescued Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego from the furnace of blazing fire.
And yet kings can be proud. Nebuchadnezzer trusted in his own power and might, so the King of Heaven humbled a king of earth. God made Nebuchanezzer a little crazy in the head, and the proud man got down on all fours, wandered into the pasture lands, and ate grass like a cow.
That's a tough way to teach a person to "lift[ their] eyes to heaven."
In light of this passage, I'd recommend that all of us get rid of our foolish pride and lift our eyes to heaven, before God turns us into something that needs to be milked.
In Christ's Love,
a guy who's thankful he's not a cow
(though some days deserves to be)
