The book of Numbers began with a census. (That's why it's called the book of counting and "numbers.")
Well ... the book of Numbers is beginning to end with counting and numbers too -- "Take a census." After all the deaths (and surely births too) in the wilderness …
"stop and take stock
of where you are."
That's a good quick message for us too today: After all your victories and defeats ... in the midst of all your hopes and worries ... surrounded by opportunities and disappointments ... "stop and take stock of where you are."
