Aug 8 - SEX - Numbers 25:1-3

1 While Israel was staying at Shittim, the people began to have sexual relations with the women of Moab. 2 These invited the people to the sacrifices of their gods, and the people ate and bowed down to their gods. 3 Thus Israel yoked itself to the Baal of Peor, and the Lord’s anger was kindled against Israel.

Numbers 25

Judgment occurs when "marry" the culture around us.

That's the message for today.

We tell ourselves that it's "not that bad." And some of it technically is "not that bad" -- who cares, right? -- until we realize that we're rejecting God and worshiping (at best) the ways of this world.

At worst, we're falling into Baal's (Satan's) trap. The "Father of Lies" is the one who tells us that it's "not that bad." Any and every rebellion, big or small, is what necessitated the cross. Baal continually sows seeds of compromise.

Think about it ... Satan doesn't always need to stir an outright rebellion. The eventual effect is the same if hell merely stirs a million little daily compromises ... and then we gradually create our own hell.

God gave sexuality to us as a powerful blessing. But our modern world has redefined the blessing of sexuality. We can cry that it's "not that bad," but since America's summer of free love in the late sixties, what has been the consequence of that compromise? America has an epidemic of children growing up without one or both parents. Statistically this creates a cycle -- a downward spiral -- of generational poverty.

We can say, "it's not that bad" ... we can say, "but if two people love each other" ... we can say, "what two people do in their own bedrooms ..." ... we can say, "who's it really hurting" ... and we can make a case for it not being "that bad" for any one or two individuals ("we understand," "we weren't that much better," "who am I to say anything") ... but when you multiply it out, "free love" has absolutely enslaved a generation of children. And one compromise at a time, it has trapped our nation's children in a downward spiral. (In other cultures, it's the compromise and AIDS that's leaving up to 70% of children in some areas without one or both children.) We must stop bowing down to the lies of Baal and the compromises of culture.

In Christ's Love,

a guy who hopes that when

you read this today, you

didn't say, "it's not that bad"
